MyShake

As a Californian, you are undoubtedly aware of the recent earthquake that struck the state. In order to make sure you are as prepared as possible in the event of another earthquake, MyShake has released an earthquake early warning app.

The MyShake App is funded by the California Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (Cal OES).

Officials with the Washington Emergency Earthquake Network (WEEN) along with a coalition of State and university partners implemented Phase 3 of operations of the ShakeAlert® Earthquake Early Warning System. This system provides warnings to individuals and family members living in California, Oregon, and Washington who have downloaded the MyShake App. The alerts will be sent out to anyone who experiences intensity 3 (light) shaking.

Whether you are in California, Oregon, or Washington- make sure you have the MyShake App installed and ready to receive earthquake alerts. By doing so, you will be prepared for anything and can survive and recover with ease.

QuakeAlerts

As the world continues to become more and more seismically active, it is important to have access to information about earthquakes as soon as they happen. With the QuakeAlert app, you can be notified about earthquakes up to 60 seconds in advance, ensuring that you are informed about the latest seismic activity.

The QuakeAlert app is available for free on the Apple Store and is designed by seismologists and engineers. It is suitable for loading into applications that understand Keyhole Markup Language (KML). By being informed about earthquakes as they happen, you can help ensure that buildings and infrastructure are prepared for events of this nature.

American Red Cross

As a resident of an area at risk for earthquakes, the American Red Cross has created the Earthquake App. This app allows users to receive alerts for earthquakes as they happen, as well as view past alerts and learn about earthquake preparedness. The app is available for both iPhone and Android devices and is free to download. Additionally, if you feel an earthquake, you can report it to the US Geological Survey via the app. Forty-five U.S. states and territories are at moderate to very high risk of earthquakes, so the Earthquake App is a valuable resource for all residents.

ShakeAlert Across California

As of 8 a.
m.
Tuesday, cellphone users in California, Oregon and Washington should receive a mobile alert from the ShakeAlert earthquake early warning system.

This system, developed and operated by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), sends alerts to millions of people in seconds if an earthquake is detected. In 2020, the state successfully tested its ShakeAlert system, sending alerts to 5 million people who had downloaded UC Berkeley’s MyShake app.

Since this system is so quick to react, it can help many people before shaking occurs. If you live in one of the states listed and are worried about an earthquake, make sure to download the MyShake app and turn on the Android Earthquake Alert system.

Real-Time Quake Alerts

If you’re like most people, you live in an area of the United States that’s known for its seismic risk. And if there’s one thing you can count on, it’s that an earthquake will happen at some point. Fortunately, there are apps like MyShake that can help you stay safe in the event of a quake. MyShake is a reliable, real-time depth estimate app that uses seismic slowness and pre-calculated ray tracing to provide a reliable, real-time depth estimate of the location and size of a potentially destructive earthquake.

And if you’re interested in donating to the development of this app, you can do so by signing up for a premium account. In the event of an earthquake, having access to accurate information is key – and with MyShake on your side, you’ll be prepared for anything.
